New World is an action-packed game when it comes to both PvE and PvP content but it's much more than just fighting monsters and other players. Underneath the initial combat is a world filled with industry, revolving around taxation, land ownership, and a multitude of other things, including crafting and gathering. From hemp to iron, there’s seemingly an endless amount of items to find scattered around the regions. However, some aren’t immediately useful and only have one specific objective.
The petal cap is one such item, as it’s one of the main resources needed to complete the Weakness of the Ego quest. Although, the petal cap isn’t a very popular resource in New World. It’s not featured on any fan-made resource map, making locating the item extremely difficult.
New World Petal Cap locations: Where to find the resource
Fronded Petal Caps are generally found in grasslands and wooded areas. The area around Windsward is a good place to start, though you can find them scattered as far as northeast of Cutlass Keys. You can refer to the map above for more densely packed areas. Alternatively, this interactive map will give the exact locations. You may also have more luck finding the plants further away from the settlement, depending on how busy your server is.
It's important to note that players will need a Sickle to get their hands on Petalcaps. Thankfully, the node that Petalcaps derive from doesn't have a specific Harvesting level associated with it, meaning players that are brand-new to the game can snag their own right out of the gate. The earliest Sickle players come across will suffice and they won't need any proficiency in Harvesting to start collecting the useful Alchemy ingredients.
So far, there’s one location that’s known to have a solid amount of the petal caps. That would be in the northern part of the First Light region, right next to the Windsward border. There's also a solid amount of them right outside the eastern entrance to Windsward. It might take some time to find them, but the green trees are located all throughout Windsward and the north part of First Light.
