But it's the melodic patches that really won my heart. With their straightforward, melodic lines like a tin whistle or flute, they are arguably the most musically expressive strings I've ever heard. While the lithium patches are perfect for adding warmth and sweetness to a track, the melodic patches might just be the instrument's saving grace, for providing, as the name suggests, clear, sweet and lyrical melodies in a high state of purity.

But unlike the solo patches, there are no tabs or notes associated with any of the string patches, so you'll have to play it by ear. Fortunately, the patches and samples are in a convenient format for layering up, so if there's a patch you particularly fancy, just drag it into your Layers rack, then use the Double-click Control strip to preview it. When you're set to go, select the Patch Strip, and then the Patch you want to use, and hit the New icon in the Layers Strip to access the Properties dialog.
